I have a few honey holes that I wont ever pass close to during the weekends because I know the pot lickers will destroy them if they find out that there are fish there. The funny thing is that some of these areas are on the way to some of the more popular spots like Last Island and Wine Island in the summer time and in 15 yrs of fishing this area I have never seen anyone other than one of my fishing buddies go to these spots that me and him have a strict no weekdend fishing policy.
As far as Lake Decade I dont fish Decade in December/January because of the crowds. I can catch just as good in Dularge/Mechant once you learn the area I dont mind seeing a few people on the water but Decade is just crazy and I dont go fishing to fight crowds. If you dont want pilgrims then stay off the popular spots is all I can say. If they follow you out of the launch (which I have had happen) stop somewhere random dont bring them to one of your good spots they will fish it clean when you are not there and some even destroy the habitat by running over reefs and dragging there motar over points without even knowing what they are doing. I didn't potlick W yesterday, but I saw him fishing, eased up to him on his top secret spot with my trolling motor and marked it on my GPS. He never seen me. Gonna fish that hole for the rest of the winter...

Black Boat, White Jolly Roger with Butt Pirate on the sides should make them think twice about getting too close. Or you can put Rainbows on each side.

It's kind of like being on the lake with KVD, it's fun to watch him work. Maybe W needs to be like Mike, he can scream and holler and dance every time he catches one. Pavaratsi fishermen, whoohoo!:*****: |

When I fished wit him, no one else was brave enough to go out in that weather. We had the whole lake to ourselves. So I didn't get to see the fun stuff.

W just rewrap your boat white and don't tell anyone. I know when I'm in big lake and a black haynie pulls up near the area I'm fishing, I feel like I might be doing something right lol but I would never intrude anyone.

Grand Isle on weekends is the worst place I ever seen... Unless weather is bad.
You can be drifting a reef and someone will pass 20 yards from you, waving at us, thinking they are being friendly. |

I understand Dubya's frustrations. I'm by no means the best trout fisherman, but i was taught common Big Lake manners by the men that would bring me fishing growing up. Big Lake currently is almost a victim of CCA's success. Anyone with money to burn can go out and buy a shiny new bay boat and a gps spot map and go chase the trout that CCA has been so successful in bringing back. The problem is not that they aren't as good of fisherman as some of the others on the lake, but that they were never taught proper etiquette. Sure there are a few people out there that don't care about being courteous, but mostly it is ignorance. Cussing them and calling them pilgrim while you storm off will not make matters better. If someone rolls up on your spot and ruins it; the fish are gone. Might as well turn around and make the best of the situation and let them know what they did and how to remedy it next time. The more new fishermen we educate the better everyone's lake experience will be.
On another note, I also find it quite hypocritical to feel the need to post, brag, and boast about every fish you have ever caught, and then turn around and complain when people follow you to a spot... but thats just me. |

If a pilgrim messes me up... He will know...that is the only way to teach them to understand..... Best advice is don't fish next to anyone If you
#1...have no clue what your fishing #2..... Don't have understanding of trout fishing #3....if you look for boats to find fish....you need to give up fishing because your a lost cause |

It sounds like according to some people on here that you can't fish Big Lake unless you have taken a course on how to properly spec fish. Whatever happened to newbies learning how to fish. Not everybody had someone to teach them how to fish or even how to operate a boat. My dad taught me fish and how to be respectful on the water. If take your child and try to teach them by yelling and screaming at them. They will not learn. They will tune you out and or get mad. If you take the time to teach them wether you know them or not they will be a much better boater and fisherman. I do know some people are just jerks and don't care. Some of this "potlickers" maybe watching you to learn the technics that are producing you fish. This is just my $.02.
