It makes more sense to me to tilt the motor all the way up and get the powerhead weight directly over the transom. I agree that both probaly don't do much with the newer boats with built up transoms they are pretty solid. Also if I paid 60k for a new boat I think I would go ahead and spend an extra hundred on a transom saver just in case.

i saw a guy on highway 90. pulling a skeeter with a 300 yamaha. that motor was bouncing bad and you could see the transom flexing. he had it trimmed up with no transom saver!
