I also use salt sometimes but i find if you leave them in the salt water too long they start to die, but i always clean them off in an ice chest until the water comes out clear. I know a fella (whos on this site) that dosnt clean them at all, straight out of the sack and into the pot!! Last time we boiled at his house he boiled two turtles!! LMAO!! You know who you are!!

Most of the farms I have been too have purging tanks they put them in after catching. Most places will tell you if they are purged or not. Wash then cook in most cases.

My roommate caught about 4.5sacks today south of lafayette on his family ponds. I wish he would have at least cleaned them. They were boiled dirty, and tasted dirty. Pretty sure the soil where they were caught had a high clay content....suckers had the biggest poop veins I've seen yet. It's kinda fun picking grass and sticks out of the crawfish...

Boiled some crawfish sunday all i do is empty sack in washtub and run water over them empty and repeat the process until water is clear. I never use salt my dads neighbor used to cator crawfish boils and said using salt will also take the fat out.
