My dad was in a boating accident when he was young. His uncle flipped the Jon boat they were in and some how broke his back, my dad had a vest on and his uncle didn't - he said his uncle was sinking like a brick and actually ripped my dad's shirt trying to hold on. My dad was maybe 7 years old, they searched for 2 weeks in the mermentau with no luck, then a family friend found him by accident while he was fishing... The body was hooked under a pallet he was fishing near.

It doesn't take much to sink. Everyone has played around in the water and inhaled air to make you rise, then exhaled until you sank to the bottom. Take a hard hit to knock out the wind, then fill your lungs back with water and you will go straight down even faster.
