My dearest dubyah, when you are as wealthy as these families are they can't afford to have random people on their property. People like this become a target because of their money, and while I'm sure they really don't care about someone fishing in a canal near their property, they will care when said person is trespassing, hurts themselves, and turns around and sues the landowner.

Don't blame them, blame the lawyers.
