This happened to me 3 weeks after Katrina over in the Atchafalaya basin. They stole a small ice chest, food and some very old tennis shoes worth maybe $ 30 total that I had left on the front seat.
Whenever I go fishing or hunting, I don't leave anything on the seat of my truck to tempt a THIEF. If there is nothing for them to see, hopefully they will not break-in. .
