Took a chance with the heavy winds and approaching storm front this morning to get on some bigger trout. It was rough from the very beginning and the water was high and still rising early. First two spots were a big zero and they were the ones I had in mind when taking on this thing. Decided to switch it up and go deep, deep in the marsh, really just to check things out. Trolled a stretch protected from the relentless gusts and soon spied some activity a quarter mile ahead. No doubt they were trout, just a matter of how big. They were chasing big bunches of tiny minnows, presumably flushed from the way-back with the high water.

The trout were intermittently tearing into the minnows, sometimes as much as half an acre of topwater strikes. Only issue was they were very picky about what they would hit on top. But no issue on jigs as trout big and small nailed them multiple times on most casts. Picked through a bunch of small ones to box a dozen 14+ and a bonus limit of eater redfish. Good times!
