Owner called me this morning and we spoke at length. He didn't even remember turning the collar on. Dogs can hear a whistle at 600 + yards so that theory is probably not valid. Eli was sent on a bird he saw fall and it was a relitively easy retrieve, $hit happened and he didn't come back. If he had been a "Rock" dog there would have been no chance for him to get lost since they only go as far as the rock can be thrown.
