Cameron Jetties Fishing Pier Advice

I will plan to go to Cameron Jetties Fishing Pier with my friend and his kids coming April or May. We’ve never been there. I simply need your advice for us the following:


What should we use either live baits or artificial baits for trout/reds?
Would the north winds be good to fish than the south winds?
Would we allow to walk to the beach to fish on the surf east of Cameron Jetties Fishing Pier?
Does it allow us to castnet for baits?
