Beach fishing 6-6-15

I got down to Little Fl. before daylight and started throwing topwater.

The winds were very light out of the north and the water was very clear for our beaches. I could see 12" to 15" down. There was almost no wave action and a few small schools of bait. The tide was high and no current in the water.

As the sky got lighter, I still had not gotten a blowup so I switched to soft plastic. By this time, I had lots of company along the beach. There were 7 yackers and 4 boats all with in a 1/2 mile and maybe 20 people wading.

In the next hour I tried several different plastics but the only thing they seemed to want was live shrimp that a guide boat was using not far away. I finally caught a 10" speck using an opening night swimming mullet. Then 20 minutes later I put a 13" speck in the basket. But nothing after that for 30 minutes.

So....... I caught some mullets and small shad. The mullet were a little large [~6+"] and the trout were not interested in them, but I did have something bite one and left me just the head. The shad produce the first catch.....a hardhead. Then another and another.

So far I had only see a couple other people catch anything while wading.

Somewhere around 9 AM, I started seeing much larger schools of bait. Within a short time, I was literality surround by schools of shad [pogies] as fare as I could see. There was millions of them.

One more throw of the castnet and I had 25 lbs of bait..... 2" to 5" in size. I put some in the basket and let most go.

Using the 2-3 inch size I caught 2 more nice size specks but fishing was slow. I talked to 2 other groups that had been fishing other locations and they reported that the specks just were not along the beach like it had been for the last 3 days.

I drove to a different beach to see it that would make a difference, but I only managed 2 more specks in 1.5 hours.

By late morning the tide had dropped about 8" but not much current. The winds had picked up to 5-7 mph and shifted to a more SE direction.

I seldom fish on a Saturday, and was supprissed to see the number of families out enjoying the beach and swimming.

Final count was 5 specks [13" to 17"] and a fun day at the beach wading.
