My bay boat had been in the shop for a new power pole motor and I had been running a boat for BEF. It is not a fishing boat and no fishing allowed. I have family comming in for the fourth and I got hold of Bobby to help me do a quick scouting trip. The boat was waiting for him when he showed up at 8:00 am.



We launched in Buras and shot across the Mississippi into Quarintine bay. It was a while before I found clean water and a place away from other boats. I decided to run into another near by pond and there we started fishing. My first fish was big and broke off but the second came aboard. I figure both were about the same 14 pound size.



I found a trout that was 1/2 inch on the good side.



I had 1 trout and 2 reds in the box but Bobby was struggling. It took him a while before he was able to unhook a fish and it was short but he at least broke the ice.



His very next redfish was a perfect 18 incher.



We picked away at the fish with many shorts giving us plenty of fishing action. We also caught and released croaker, sail cats, hard head cats and one nice black drum that went in the box. When we cleaned it there was only one spot with parasites in it. It was about the biggest we would consider keeping. Bobby also managed a nice 17 inch trout along with the many shorts. We lost several fish before boating. At times the bite was not aggressive.



With the sun beating down on us, the tide starting to ebb, a few storm clouds threatening, and a good bit of fish in the box we decided to head in around noon. As the tide starts to ebb the sail cats and hardhead cats get more active and the other fish move to the other side getting ready for the reverse current flow. This would give us a chance to clean the fish and the boat and still have a good part of the day to do other things. I burned 5.5 gallons of gas and we were both happy with our catch. I will be in that area with my family next week winds permitting.



Cleaned off the side of the boat and put on new decals my daughter gave me for Fathers day.



Not what you would expect on a bay boat but remember I started out fishing offshore and still am doing it also. The Glacier Bay is in the background in the picture below.
