Wed morn fog

Planning on taking my college son in the morning but forecast is for dense fog. Wondering how bad it is expected to be and whether we can get on the lake or not. Any advice appreciated.

Go slow and stay off plain. They are dredging. There is a bunch of bouyes that are not marked. I had 2 guys a couple weeks ago run up on us in dense fog. It may take longer to get there but it's not worth hitting something or someone. The north end has been pretty good lately.

Better have a GPS and all hands on deck for look out, I hate running the ship channel in the fog. Don't look for it to move much before noon since there is little wind predicted. I would run the old river and stay in turners to be safe.

I am launching at Cal Pt. With the tides running so low is there any risk of running aground if I go to Turners without getting in the ship channel?

A few years ago, I went out of Cal. Pt. with at good friend. To say the fog was bad, was an under statement. We could not see 100 feet.

We rode by GPS to get to turners and he was looking for a spot a little north of the "island". He said there was a PVC pole there. According to the GPS.....we passed over the island a couple of times. Kind of scarry to know the GPS was off by that much. We never saw the island until the fog lifted later.

Stay in the middle of the old river channel. It does get shallow anywhere near the bank.....mostly on the North bank side.

Be careful if it's foggy turning into Turners!! Looks like they are laying a pipe and it's covering a large section of the channel near turners. Depending on how far you can see go SLOW

yes, if you stay on plane you should be ok. it's just soft mud anyway, trim up and idle worst case.

Na, I have been stuck in a fog bank in west cove so thick I had to wait it out. I spend more time on the lake than I do in my house but when that fog rolled in I felt like I was in never never land. Unless it's a tournament I pass on taking my boat out in thick fog. I not that I'm worried about hitting something or getting lost, I worry about someone hitting me.

Launch at Prien and hang around in there until fog lifts. My dad was in a thick fog once fishing with a guy who fished Big Lake for 20 plus years. He said they went around in one big circle for about 45 minutes until they figured out why his compass kept flipping (going in circles)! He was blaming it on the crappy compass why they were lost. The captn. felt like a dumb__! They figured it out when one of them looked back at the transom and saw the motor! Be careful!
