Default Sagging Gate No More!

If you want to build a gate the right way build it like this. 5 inch drill pipe ,may be over kill but i will never have to replace it. The hinges had a ball bearing in it but i removed them because it opened too easily. You can put grease in the hinges also but I never do because I wanted it to be a little stiff to open. It still swings easily but with grease and the bearing i could touch it with a finger to open. The frame is made out of tubing and the fence boards are screwed in by sheet metal screws. I didn't want a latch on the outside so I rigged this method to lock it. If im on the outside of the fence I can open it by reaching over and grabbing weed eater string that I have tied to the board that locks it.

Default nice

yeah boy, i need to put a gate up behind my house, i plan on using an iron cattle type gate and screwing the boards to it, i don't have any drill pipe around the house that thing should last you for ever, if you ever move the next person living there will change his mind quick if he thinks about pulling that up

Especially when they start digging and find out it is 5 feet in the ground!

All you need is this and you in business. Looks good otherwise.

Laugh at neighbors when I see them rebuilding their small access and double back yard gates every couple years. My privacy wooden gates have been in place 15 years and been through a hurricane 2005. Have not had to touch them for repairs. Simply people don't stop and think (engineer) lasting gates.

My gate was ready for a new boat when I built it! Just waiting for the right one so ole Bessie will have to keep me satisfied until then!

Have you ever seen what they do with the iron ornament sculptures in Mexico?
They paint over the rust with polyurathane varnish. It looks good at first but it doesn't last very long.
