A fast-moving cold front packing high winds and heavy thunderstorms moved through the Houston area today, dumping heavy rain dropping temperatures.
Scattered showers in the area became heavy downpours as the front moved across Greater Houston. By noon, the leading edge of the front reached the upper Texas coast.
Forecasters said some flooding was possible, especially in low-lying spots, but as of noon the National Weather Service had not issued any watches or warnings.
The system caused some freeway flooding in the Dallas-Fort Worth area as it passed through overnight.
The temperature climbed into the mid-80s this morning, but the mercury dropped into the upper 60s behind the system. Lows in the upper 50s are expected overnight.
Saturday is expected to be sunny, dry and cool, with a high temperature struggling to reach the mid-70s and the low in the mid-60s.
“Saturday's going to be a great day,“ said Matt Moreland, a weather serivce meteorologist.
Sunday a slight chance of rain is possible with a high temperature near 70 and low in the upper 60s.
Heat and humidity begin making a comeback Monday, though. The high temperature is expected to approach the upper 80s with a 40 percent chance of rain. High temperatures should remain in the mid- to upper 80s through at least Thursday, with a chance of rain each day, but another pre-weekend cold front is on the horizon.
