so I'm double dipping I asked in boating but I'll aske here too. Ok so I have a new boat, used but new to me, I am running wide open 5100 RPM the boat is 15ft 54inch custom V 1/8" alum. Guy I bought from had 60 2 stroke Yamaha, I have 50 s stroke Yamaha running 10.5 x 14 prop. If I put my old jack plate I'm thinking I should pick up 200 RPM or so? Operating range is 4500-5500 but I know to get best performance and longevity it should run full RPM wide open. any of you guys can give me input? prop shop says I need to go down a pitch but says I'll lose 2-3mph so if I can pick motor up and gain the RPM I need I should get 2-3 MPH... Just guessing any info would be nice. GPS reading is 35.5MPH which is not bad but I want optimal performance.

The motor was on a flat before i had it way up with no issues right now it's at highest mounting point and ventalation plate is sitting right, if I put my jack plate on 6" set back I'm thinking an extra 1-1.5 inches should be perfect, I know it's a trial and era to get it exact but it should be about ball park and add the rpm's i'm looking for. So cup increases rpm?

Matt, was that you launching at Bayou Patout this weekend? If so, that was me you talked to when I was getting ready to pick up my bay boat. That was a sweet rig.
If you have a tach, then find the right mix of pitch to rpm. Raise the motor a little, or a jack plate would help with the same prop you have already. Do that before lowering the pitch of the prop. You want to hit 5500 wide open. I bet just raising it up will help. |

Can you post a pic of your motor trimmed level with the bottom of the boat. Motor height is a big factor. If done right re pitching the prop you will not loose speed. My podna Cade at acadiana propeller can get the prop right. 706-7789

I called them that's who told me about losing speed. It's at highest it can go on motor . I know about setting the motor I just didn't know the height I needed to go on jack plate. I'm gonna work on that this weekend I'm just gonna set where I think and make adjustments at landing until I get it right. Worst case I'll get it pitched.
