Fishing dularge

I fish dularge in the spring and fall and do very well. I mostly fish grand isle in the summer and fish sacalait during the winter. Well my winter sacalait fishing is messed up this year and would like to go back to fishing trout in dularge. I have a few questions.
1. I used to fish lake decade when I first bought my boat. Always had limited success there. Is it worth fishing that area or should I go launch at jugs?
2. I always fished in the lakes never the bayous. I see there is a cut in bayou dularge that goes under some power lines that makes its way into bayou sauvage. I have a 19 foot bay boat that draws a little better than a foot. Ive seen oyster boats run in there but was always leary about taking this cut. Would it be safe to take this or go down to sister lake and head in from the mouth?

The cut you are talking about is deep, and can handle your boat with ease. Problem is, you better know when to zig and not zag as it gets very curvy closer to sister Lake. Best bet, you will need to follow a boat the first trip to mark the track because one wrong turn this time of year and you may be waiting for days for the water to come up high enough to get it out.

On another note, if you go that far south this time of year your success will not be as good. The trout are north and are being caught in Lake Decade, Jugg Lake, and even points further than that. My dad has a camp in Fisherman's Retreat and they did very well before the north wind this past week. Caught several trout over 4.5 lbs within 5 mins of his dock.

Thanks for the info. I looked on google earth and there seems to be a straight shot location that runs into a main bayou.
Ill just stick to decade then if the fish are doing good. I just dont like that launch because if the current is ripping its hard to get my boat lined up. Is there still a nice deep trench at the banks of the lake or has it filled in?

Bayou sevuer is a good winter time spot. Lots of reef along the banks.

Be leary when there have been several days of north winds! The water will magically disappear! I learned this the hard way!

I know it can get shallow quick. That was my main reason for asking about the safest routes. I was hoping to get out weekend after next. Its been a long while since I have caught some nice trout.

My one bad experience came through the area known as "the goal post." It's off of the main canal and cuts left, if you are heading away from the launch. I knew it was shallow but, didn't mind because there was a pipeline up the way that I knew would be deeper...IT WASN'T! In the very center of the main canal was ok. Anywhere off to either side, we were in mud. Once we made it out of the mud, 2.5 hrs later, the lake was fine but, the wind was blowing so hard that we were getting wet and, nothing else.

Again, this is my experience and, I'm sure someone here can tell you more about the place than what I just did. Good luck!

probably cuz the river is rising pretty quickly..?? I know its kinda throwing things in a funk here

They had a fish kill this year with the last hurricane. Usually this time of year where I fish I can catch at least 20 an evening on a good day. This year I have caught 4 sacs TOTAL. This is a tried and true spot I fish and I have never had problems like this.

I believe so. You can make the loop further down, through the lake and, shouldn't have a problem.

That cut and pipeline canal is what we call The Jump. It is a shortcut but this time of year I wouldnt recomend it unless your in a mud boat. The tank battery canal is off of Bayou Sauvage aand it holds nice trout this time of year and also plenty of reds. If you do go be carefull and stay in the middle of any bayou you run it gets extremely shallow. If you need any other help just let me know

I have a camp on Bayou Sauveur and I run through the poles all year round. There are times when I would not. Unless you have 3 ft' of mud on each side of the main bayou when leaving Jugs, you'll be fine just don't stop (run WOT!!) and don't miss the pipeline. If you decide to go the long route through crooked Bayou, I've highlighted a few spots I would definitley hit for a few minutes if boat traffic allows. I've also hightlighted red at the begining of bayou sauveur (closer to the lake) the oyster shells come pretty far out stay in the middle while running. I run a 22ft' express with 175 hp.
