A 4 mile stretch of Henderson Lake will be closed today until further notice, due to the high water. Too bad, it could have been a great weekend on the water. The Henderson Lake will be closed from the Henderson levee east to the Atachafalaya River levee. Enclosed are pictures of the water at Kern's Landing and in Kern's pit, south of I-10. Well everyone, have a great weekend and keep it SAFE.

It didn't look as high as the other side of the river did when I passed over the bridge this past Tuesday.

Henderson swamp area is "back filling" from about 10 miles farther south so it is always several days behind [or ahead... if the river is falling] the level of the Atchafalaya river. The flow of water is along the West levee side. How much water was there in the I-10 boat launch area? How about the other boat launches farther to the east? I spend alot of time hunting in the Sherburne WMA. |

The closure length is from Henderson levee on the west side to Butte La Rose levee on east side. The width is from the I-10 bridge on the south side to a line half a mile north of the bridge on the north side. This is due to elevated water in the area around the Entergy lines that run from levee to levee with expected clearance of 7 feet for boat traffic. Maps and more info are on ldwf website.

Most of the boat launches I saw Tuesday were closed.
