We could not stay away from the trout this past weekend. Every where we stopped was loaded with trout, redfish and... wait for it... wait for it... Yes that is right, blacktips. We ended the day around 1200 with a limit of very nice trout, tagged and released another 47 trout, and one 4' blacktip.
The highlight of the day was on our first stop. We were catching 15" to 18" trout every cast and all of a sudden something inhaled a trout that my buddy was reeling in. He fought it for about 10 minutes before it spit the trout up. Based on the trout having all its scaled removed and a piece of its tail I would have bet a paycheck that what took the trout was much larger trout. Based on the swirl it made when it took the trout I would say at least 30".
Why I thought it was a large trout:
1- A shark would have cut the line, or at least bit the trout in half.
2- A redfish is too stuborn to release a small trout and we would have landed it.
