Default Lure retrievers

Does anybody use these to get back snagged lures and can I get your opinion on them if you do. I've started throwing hard plastics and I figure I should look into this before I start losing $6-$8 lures.

My buddy bought the bait snatcher that slides down your string then took an old broken rod that he cut off just past last eye closest to real and mounted an older real with some nylon string on it, you slide it down the line and use the shorter rod like a jig.... works great

X 2 on the rod and reel I used an old penn with 100 Lb nylon string
just cut the pole and have about two feet, I put a eye on the end.

Has saved me hundreds of dollars

Thanks for the tips, I wasn't sure if they worked and the reviews for that hound dog look good.
