What is the best way to prepare them before frying. Some say boil/steam to make them tender. Any suggestions?

No we just slice em , batter with flour, Tony's, and dill. Fry quickly like a oyster , salt with sea salt

Soak them in buttermilk overnight in the refrigerator. Batter up some banana peppers and fry them with the squid.

Batter them like a shrimp and Fry them for no longer than 20 seconds.
