![]() BARATARIA BAY, La. (AP) - Two years after the massive Gulf of Mexico oil spill, scientists say they're finding trouble with sick fish that dwell along offshore reefs and in the deep waters - especially in places where the oil spill hit the hardest. The scientists are unsure what's causing a small percentage of the fish they're catching to have large open sores and strange black streaks. The biggest question is whether contaminants from the BP spill are causing the problems. For now scientists can't say for sure if the spill is the cause or if it's normal to find this number of sick fish. The fish illnesses don't pose an increased health threat to humans, scientists say, but they could be devastating to prized species and the people who make their living catching them |

They don't want to report what's really going on in the rest of the world or, someone's grant money is soon to dry up if they don't have a new spin on their work real quick-like.
I'd bet there is ZERO relation to the BP spill. |

We will not see the end of the BP oil spill anytime soon. Still washin up on beaches (I know oil has always washed up on beaches, but not in this amount), someone is doing a good job not letting the public know about this, I don't know if its a good or a bad thing, should the public know? I don't know, but I do know that once BP settles, they are not liable anymore, lets just hope its enough. Looking like in the multibillions is what is being said, but that money will be split between the gulf states
I do agree with the timing of this press release is kinda shady though. Every time something happens that looks bad on the president, something major comes up to take our minds off it. This is kinda fishy with the Colombia prostitute thing going round, same thing happened when Obama 'killed' Osama! Takes our minds off Libya and fast and furious scandals etc ![]() I have seen plenty of fish with some sort of lesions on it even in freshwater, usually just cut out that part or give em away |

No idea what to think about this. Look at the source but hell who knows which news media tells the truth these days. If it is real, why isn't American media reporting it. They cite some LSU and ULL profs in there, anyone know of something official released by the schools? |

![]() http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/0...n_1434268.html Yes, this has been known for sometime, the stories are just breaking. There is oil right now in places, and that dispersant was probably much worse than the oil itself. We will be hearing about this for years. Like the article mentioned, more than one generation of shrimp have come and gone so teh genetic effects can be shown, I hope this isn't shown in longer lived species like fish, but? On the lighter side: the trout ought to be able to catch plenty of shrimp since they have no eyes! |

deformed and diseased are 2 different things. They should still be safe to eat. I for one dont keep/eat fish I catch in big lake that have weird sores on them.
