Default Need quick help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guys:

Just noticed some "dirty" looking oil on my 25hp suzuki prop. Looks like there is more behind the prop when I take it off. Also, there are 6 small holes just above my cavitation plate that had this same oil residue leaking from one of the lower holes.

Checked lower unit and it had black oil coming from the screw. Added some new but it must be full cause it was leaking from the screwhole where you add it as soon as i put some new in it.

Any idea if this is bad news or could it just be that I ran it a bit too rich and this is exhaust residue.

I don't want to go duck hunting in the dark and fin out that I should not have ran the motor. If anyone can call me to discuss that would be great.

263-3006.

Thanks,

Latt

If the oil coming out the fill hole is black it's because it got hot . It sounds like a bearing going out

Drain the oil in a clean bucket and run a magnet thru it, a little "fuzz" is common, chunks and pieces are not good

If this has not been done in a while and if you have NO chunks or water intrusion, re-fill and run (w/new gaskets on plugs) for a baseline...

Drop the oil again and see what color it is, milky = water intrusion, ferrous glitter can be a bearing going out or pinion wear... Non ferrous contaminats could be a bearing race, or housing material...

If in doubt, bring it to your favorite outboard shop...

"black oil"...... did the oil look normal? Did you smell the oil? If the oil got over heated from a bearing or gear going out, it might smell like it got bunt. If the oil were milky color.....the o-ring seal is leaking.

I would have called.... but just saw this post. Good luck on your hunt in the morning.
