![]() Public Boating Course March 26, 2011 8:30 AM - 3:00 PM Lake Charles Sail & Power Squadron 3106 Kiwanis Lane (north side of I-210 beach) The Lake Charles Sail & Power Squadron will be presenting this fundamental course in boating and boat safety to the public. This course is our organization’s civic effort to teach the fundamentals of boating and boating safety to the community. The course is open to the general public and if free of charger, other than a $10 donation per student which covered the cost of lunch and course materials. The following topics are covered in this boating course. Boat handling under normal conditions Adverse conditions and emergencies Type of boats and boating terminology Required and recommend equipment Boating regulations and navigational rules Line and knots Charts and aids to navigation Piloting techniques Marine radio usage Trailer boating If you would to learn more about our organization or educational programs, please see our website , www.lcsps.org or call 337 474-0730. BOATING SAFETY EDUCATION REQUIRED No person born after January 1, 1984, shall operate a motorboat powered by a motor in excess of ten horsepower unless he has successfully completed a boating safety class approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). A person who has completed an approved boating safety class shall be in possession of evidence of such completion when operating such a boat. This law is effective July 1, 2010 |
