Just depends on what side of offshore u go into, production or drilling. Whatever the case may be, it's really a choice for you to make once you become familiar with the operations. Best to make it something you can tolerate for 12 hrs. A day..

i know its a choice i'm gonna have to make, i'm just wondering what route you guys would've taken if you would do it differently than you did, or if one particular field is better than the other and why

I'd go with a service company or production. To hell with drilling.

think our r roustabouts make somewhere in the 60's. hard to say what would be the best path. maintenance on these newer rigs isn't bad if you're not into the drilling aspect. I like subsea but it's not for everyone

Good place to start. I started as a roustabout in the late 70's. Got smart and moved into production with a major in the early 80's. Have been working overseas since 2005.
