Sad Shoulder Surgery

My freshman year at McNeese in 2008 I injured my shoulder lifting at the Track and most recently hurt it again in October. A week and a half ago, I had an arthrogram on my shoulder. That's when they inject ink (iodine) into the shoulder joint to provide a contrast against torn muscles.

Got the results today and I have multiple tears in my labrum as well as cartilage deterioration.

I find out soon when I will be having surgery. After that, I will be in a sling with my right shoulder elevated about a foot off my side for 6 weeks at least. Not good news. Especially with how much I like to fish. I already have an idea that will continue to let me fish. Hopefully it will work out. I am right handed so this may be interesting.

They said it will be at least 6 months before I can start throwing again. I am not so much worried about throwing as I am fishing. The first few months will be the toughest. Hopefully I will remain positive during the recovery process.

My nerves are still on edge, and I am very anxious about this surgery. This will be the first time I have ever been injured enough to need medical help. It will also be the first time under the knife and anesthesia, and that has me nervous as well.

Awesome Christmas break, wouldn't you say?

The way I see it, you picked the best time of the year to get fixed up.
Heel up and be ready to catch some fish in 4 months, you'll be the 6 million dollar man by then. Here Ortho is da bomb, just listen to the doc, that's why he gets paid the Mad $$$$.

Good Luck

Thank you raymond and jordan. I am actually having the surgery here in north texas while I am still under my fathers insurance. They do not cover me in lake charles for some reason. I was told it was because louisiana does not have a similar HMO plan to what we have here.

Good luck on your surgery. I know it can be worrisome but the doctors are really good with that type of surgery nowadays.

And the meds they give you are the bomb!

good luck. Surgery today is not what it used to be. As some of the others said, follow the docs orders or you will be down and out longer

i'm left handed, I cast with my right hand and keep the rod in my right hand as I reel with my left, I get compliments on how I can cast with both hands like its a gift from God, I never noticed people cast with there left and switched hands.

I'll be in the same situation in the near future. I will eventually have to go in and have shoulder surgery as well. I just keep putting off the inevitable.

The doctor told me I could continue to try and compete if I really wanted to. The only thing is, he said it would most likely be under 60 percent of what I can do, and potentially add 50 years of shoulder problems. Good luck to you.
