Brew The people of Delcambre!

Well, once again, I was reminded today of why I love to live in south LA. The wife and I were trying to miss the Lafayette traffic on the way to Bayou Dularge this afternoon pulling the new boat in the new truck. My dad has been on some serious trout so we wanted to smoke some before Santa Claus.

We left Crowley later than we wanted due to a funeral I had to attend, but now worries, we could fish tomorrow. All was well and we made it through Abbeville w/o any incident and was glad to avoid Lafayette. All that changed in Delcambre!

Approaching the red light on Hwy 14, we felt a big "bump" like someone rear ended me. I stopped and looked, didn't see anyone, so I proceeded to pull forward and get to the shoulder to see what the hell happened. That's when my day went to crap! Apparently, the pin holding my reciever hitch either broke or came out. The bump was the hitch sliding forward until it hit the bumper, once I pulled forward, it came out the reciever - then the tounge went to the roadway, then I hit the brakes, then the boat hit the tailgate. All of this happened in about 1.4 seconds. Luckily, the damage was a minor "whiskey dent" to my tailgate, no damage to boat or trailer.

The great news was the poeple around me! Withing 30 seconds, I had 5-8 people wanting to help. Within 1 minute, a guy pulls up with a floor jack, and we got another guy to get his truck under my trailer. I would bet we had the roadway blocked for less than 3 minutes!!! To top it off, we had a guy show up from the local feed shop along Hwy 14 and gave me another pin so I could get my hitch back together. Didn't get any names, but I can honestly say it made me proud to be from south LA today! If anyone on here sees this and was out there today, post a reply and I can give you a better "thanks". Kudos to all involved and I am very happy this happened in Delcambre!

the movie Groundhog Day! The old ladies had a flat and before they could get out of their car Bill Murray was jacking up their car!! Have been wanting to get down there myself....Bill Lake and Co. have been tearing them up.

With 4 vehicles and a 16y/o driver, this will not be turned into insurance. If you want to do a cash deal, shoot me your number! I will need to get it fixed after the holidays, but if I can save some money - ur the man!

I am getting up there in age, and I have never seen a hitch pin break or come out. Now I was driving like a white boy and was not doing anything crazy, after all it is a new boat. Fot it to just fail like that really has me scratching my head. Pretty scary and have never seen this before. But, on the good side- it took me longer to ger the lock undone to remove the hitch, then it did for us to get it off the road. It was like a Nascar pit stop!!!!

My first thought was to get one of those locks, but a guy there helping said the same thing happened to him last year because he did not lock it correctly and it came out. So, don't know what to do, stay w/ the pin that came with it, or buy a locking pin! Things that make you go Hummmmmm?!

I have a been using a piece of all thread and double nut on each side for about 20 years...I switch it from truck to truck and it still looks good.

I get it tight and the insert does not move, it's one solid piece plus, No one is running around with a set of wrenches to take it off with....
