Default New to LA... help please!

I'm going to be attending school in Lafayette for the next 2 years and I need a saltwater fishing outlet to sooth my soul! I'm used to fishing the Galveston Bay complex, so I have no idea about Louisiana wadefishing...

I was just wondering if there are any drive-to wade spots within a reasonable distance from Lafayette that I could hit on the weekends?

Any help is much appreciated!

Tight lines!

holly beach and johnson bayou beaches are heating up and will be good next 2 or 3 months. U can drive to and wade the ship channel right by the ferry landing also.

The beach during the summer time anytime the wind lays or a north wind blows for a day or so...

Never waded Vermillion or herd anyone wading it, I stay in Calcasieu and wade during the fall, spring, and mainly winter. Still relatively new here..

Rockefeller Refuge is full of fish and a closer drive for you but is ALL marsh, great crabbing during spring and fall. And literally full of redfish...

i fish reds and specs...

i think i saw a couple wade-in spots on lake calcasieu, one being a little north of hackberry and the other on the south shore if you follow 82/27 to the right of the ship channel

I would suggest picking up a small skiff, if you can swing it. There are some decent walk in spots but they can be tough.
