Default Lafayette crab connection

Half the time time when I go fishing, the bait shops don't have crabs. When they do have crabs, they are live. I kill them, crack them open, and use them to find reds. It seems to me that you probably don't need to start this process with live crabs. So, two questions:

1. Is there any difference with using market crabs instead of live crabs? My thought here is that the scent might be off on crabs that aren't as fresh. But if they catch just as well, then great.

2. Is there a good spot in Lafayette to pick up crabs?
