Started out at 6am this morning just to burn some time on the lake. After getting 2" of rain yesterday evening, figured the fish might be up the banks looking for some fresh food. First spot didn't turn up anything while throwing frogs, squarebill and buzzbait. Headed up to the north end of the lake by the spillway. Had heavy cloud cover so kept working the hollow body frog along the bank in the lilly pads. Worked my little frog over some pads, across an opening and stopped on the edge of a pad. Then BAM, big splash, frog gone, and set the hook when I felt the weight. Couldn't move the fish to me so kept tight pressure and trolled over to the pads. She went down and wrapped up the lilly stalks and I couldn't see her. Couldn't get the net under her so followed my line with my hand and when I felt the mouth, shoved my hand inside and held on for dear life. Started pulling and had a big wad of lilies, grass and a fish somewhere inside. And then there she was. My scale showed 8.6. Went to local tackle store and used certified scale. 8.75 lbs. Used Lews SS / 7' Hammer MH rod / Hollow body frog/ 65 lb braid
