Gravois ( in Jeanerette) is a great alum boat but they are not available to build recreational boats any longer. My understanding is that they have some big commercial boat building project with the government and don't have resources to build for the recreational guys any longer. I do not know anything about the "American Weld" people or Gaudet however.

Shoot SimplePeddler a PM. He runs a Gaudet boat and seems to love it. I have a Gaudet skiff and I can tell you he builds a dang tough one. On the bay boat side of things, I don't know much about em except that the ones I've seen have been very good looking boats!

IMG_0067.jpg You can't go wrong either way. I find Gaudet's more affordable. And, I think anyways, they ride better. Mine handles like a Ferrari on the water, extremely responsive and never falls off prop no matter the load of the turn. American's are fine!! but they are considerable more and at the end of the day, it's still aluminum. Also, Clint Gaudet will build you anything you can dream up. American is really limited in design. Again, my opinion only, they build fine boats. You will not find a better person to work with than Clint. I found the Gravois boys a little proud and down right esoteric about their boats. I know a thing or two about what I want in a boat and what a boat can and cannot do, not a genius mind you, but when it's my bones that are paying for it, I wanted what I wanted. A visit to either place may seal the deal for you. Neither run as fast as they will claim. But frankly no boat does. |

as stated gravois dosent build fishing boats anymore. they went strictly commercial and military. they keep saying they are going to get back into the fishing boats and last time i passed by i saw the foundation to what looked like a pretty good sized building so maybe they finally might step back into them. american aluminum are made by alex gravois and hes a stand up guy who builds fine fine boats. a member on here has a american 25 and its one sweet boat hopefully he can chime in on the performance of the boat.

Gravios are tied up on the "sharks" for awhile. LDWF got one, ordered 2 more, and some of the "govt agencies" have placed orders.
Saw a Gaudet's up close at Trail's Yamaha and have to say, it looke very well built. |

coming from someone who works for jimmy gravois im a little biased. we build one hell of a rock solid boat. we are building boats right now for the coast guard and wildlife and fisheries. these contracts are getting to the end and jimmy will have us build some recreational boats soon. he is a little pricey but u pay for what u get too. oh and by the way we dont build nothing that dont go fast!
