Default White Lake Report

The reds got thick in there one summer when the storm surge from ike blew a hole in the levy by the locks. The shrimp flooded in there and the fish followed but I haven't heard of anyone catching red fish in there like that since. There are some canals where the water gets black and the bass and sac a lait fishing can be good. My dad caught a 8 or 9 pounder in thee a long time ago. I imagine you can find a few reds her and there but not like they were the summer after Ike. There are rocks lining the south end of the lake that go for miles. We used to troll the rocks and throw spinner baits and absolutely murder the redfish in a daily basis. Most people who fish it now are looking for gars or cats. You can catch all the catfish you want there on shrimp under a cork. Just fish the breaks in the rocks. If your looking for reds I would fish the pilings of the platforms closet to pecan island with shrimp on a jig head. The water is usually pretty dirty if the wind is any direction other than south west. It's a good place to run some jugs too. I haven't been there in a long time and it's Pretty much in my back yard. I guess it just all depends on what you are looking to do. And watch out because it gets really rough and choppy in no time at all. The average depth is like 4'.
