Had a similar experience. One of my cousins is 94 yrs old and not doing well. He has a pond on his property and always let us fish there growing up. it was where i learned to fish and spent most of my youth in a boat with a rod in my hand. My dad also taught most of my friends to fish on that pond. because of his kindness He is one of those instrumental people in life and we are really close to that side of the family.
We made a trip up to the camp this weekend and he is not far from the end. I was able to thank him for the kindness and sharing the property as well as the impact that kindness and sharing has had on me and my life.
As you said duckman, you never know, make the call. Dont be afraid of letting people know the impact they have on you.
