Rifle weight and barrel length are important considerations, as well as style of hunting and the lady's experience with other guns. My wife had no problem killing deer reliably with a sported weight .308 or rifled 20 gauge. Most youths preferred a heavy 25-06 (Remington 700 Sendero). These days, my daughter prefers a heavy 6.5x284 (Rem 700 custom) or a really heavy .300 Win Mag. Her hunting style is to walk out to a spot, settle in like a sniper, and wait.
