seriously though, the best way to think of lake ponchartrain is as one big shallow oyster (or in this case clam) bed, very flat smooth and shallow with very small changes in depth that are so slight you don't even notice or can tell that its getting deeper until you've gone a good 1/4 mile or so
to go from 2-3 ft at the launch (the average depth around the lake at about a mile from the shoreline) to the powerlines at 10-11 ft deep its about a 3-4 mile run, that's how gradual the depth changes are
