The black hull color is created by using graphite mixed into the epoxy. The graphite is supposed to reduce scratches if you run into sand, rocks, oysters, etc. by letting them "slip" instead of digging in and scratching. Kayakers and canoes have been using it for several years. There are some commercial products that are even slicker and are often used by air boats.

The white sides are a high build primer. The hull sides will eventually be painted.

The helper is my grandson who was visiting. He was a real help using vinegar to clean off the epoxy that got on me.
