the way I see it is if it comes to the point recreational fishermen and charter boats only get one or two weeks to fish red snapper then ALL commercial red snapper fishing should be shut down permanently until such a time as recreation season can be opened up for at least 8-10 weeks.

the fish stocks are either depleated or they aren't and how can commercials ever be considered as taking less then recreational fishermen ever can do.

mark my words, you shut down all commercial operations until recreational is open and suddenly overnight they will find all the science needed to say they no longer need limited fishing for them. right now the red snapper is treated like a privately owned resource bought and paid for by commercial interests and the politicians they own to ensure no one else can have any.
