not really sure but I do remember the sales pitch on it was the 3's were quieter, much more reliable, needed less maint, and were better on gas while the 2's were known for having more pep but needing maint repairs sooner and not lasting as many years before needing more serious repairs like pistons and rings to restore compression. its not a negative, its just a trade off for more power means things wear quicker.

the reason they had more wear was everything had to be bigger with just two cylinders so heavier pistons and rods caused more friction wear slinging that extra weight where the 3's were using parts much lighter and smaller because there were 3 cyclinders instead of two
