probably chinch bugs. Havent received enough rain or dont have enough moisture for it to be disease (unless you irrigate a lot and I mean every day; if you do irrigate, irrigate early in the morning instead of late in the evening). I work with this everyday and have seen it a lot lately.... usually starting in August, chinch bugs will start doing damage... especially in dry periods. It usually starts next to roads, driveways, sidewalks and goes out from there (usually, but not all of the time). You can treat with something like Talstar, Sevin, Ortho Max Lawn and Garden Insect Killer, Maverick and Battle... all have good control.
