Only time the crabs go really deep are when it's really cold with air temps of less than 40 degrees for several days in a row. I was in flip flops and short pants yesterday. I agree, I don't know much about winter crabs but 'they' catch crawfish when fields are iced over, and the crabbers run their traps in the winter in 3' of water, AND a couple weeks back we were at Rockefeller and caught the biggest, fullest crabs I have ever caught.
And, shrimp are still being chased under the birds as well apparently
