Default Doing something different

Wanted to do something different today and I sure did!

Launched in Empire and did a lot of running and gunning with all artificials. By 12:30 we only had 1 small white trout and 2 throw back reds. The water was not moving, dirty, and no other boats in sight all morning. Nothing at all looked fishable. It was not a charter just a fun day but we were not having any fun. Do we 1) go through the locks into the river where I heard they have been getting trout or 2) go on the east side for redfish or 3)go to Venice, get live bait, and hit some of the hot spots?

Once we loaded the boat on the trailor it was off to venice Marina for our second launch of the day. We got a charge of live shrimp and headed off down the river. Hardly a boat was on the river and the winds were picking up. There is a front comming in. We set anchor and started fishing. It took forever to get our first fish in the boat. We fed quite a few and the large trout were not the ones steeling our bait. It was around 2:00 before we put one in the box. After putting up with a slow bite for over an hour we made a move to another place near by. We picked up a handfull of white trout.

Another captain, the only other boat in our area, ran further south and told me to stay put. The run was not worth it. We went back to the first spot and finished up our day. Shortly after 4 some fog started building so we called it.

We caught croakers and sheepshead and several small trout that we threw back. The Bait Steelers were at it again. Not a banner day but we got some fillets out of it.

19 specks and

11 white trout.

With the weather forecast this "may" be my last time before Christmas. I say this because things "do" change around here very fast.

Life is Good!
Fishing is not a matter of life or death. It's more important than that.
