My first memories of deer hunting are of a lease we had around Comfort, TX, northwest of San Antonio. They had a huge caliche pit mine that the doves would flock to "like the salmon to Capistrano". The largest deer taken on the place while we were there was drinking water from it. He scored close to 150" and weighed less than 200lbs. Those hill country deer ain't like South Texas deer. The driveway at our house was half oyster shell half caliche.
