If you can get to the sand bar that goes towards Elmers island you can do pretty good. Any place on the back side of the island that has a hard bottom is good, you can find doormats.
The Back of Elmers Island is a really good place to gig, but the you have to do it by boat to stay legal or most people just jump the gate at night. I have never tried jumping the gate.
Before they dredged under the bridge at Grand Isle, you could walk all over the place and clean up. We wouldn't need a gig to catch flounder, we would catch 50-60 flounder under the bridge in a few hours. Fun, cheap fishing.
