I find trout heads are best [free and the catch the best] for catching crabs.

Chicken is usually a close second. I bring a 5 gallon bucket and put the crabs in it as I catch them.....I put any med or smaller crabs in another container. When I get about a dozen in the bucket, I count them as I put them in the ice chest. I then write down how many I put in the ice chest.

I see most people catching a crab an putting it in the ice chest. I bet they have no idea how many they have kept and all there ice is probably melted from opening the ice chest for each crab they caught.
