Decoys are no different than fishing lures, they are designed to catch those with the money. Any decoy species will work for any duck, growing up I could not afford many real decoys and used coke/milk jugs painted flat black as did many hunting Catahoula Lake. The family pair deal is also a waste of time IMO, ducks just don't associate with one species.

We have one large body of water we hunt in GC that requires a large spread (250-300 dekes). I use 200 good quality Widgeon, Grey and teal along with 100 quart size jugs painted flat black w/ a little white on the bottom. I work these in close to shore among the better dekes. Does a good job. Great movement with those lighter jugs...looks like dey having a dancing party out there. BTW, I really like the use of coot decoys in a spread; seems to give confidence to workin ducks.
