Default Chicken Coop 1/16/12

Left Sunday after work for Toledo Bend to fish the Coop. Stayed at Holly Park Marina which is about 2.5 miles from the launch at the Coop. Nice place with a friendly staff and clean affordable rooms. I fished Monday morning. Launched at Newell's at 5am to avoid the line. There were about 75 boats out. Fishing was slow due to 15 to 25mph winds. It was difficult to keep the boat on the fish. I did find the fish at 25 to 35 feet about a foot off the bottom. The water temp was 51 degrees. I started with 6# line and 1/4oz weight and spent more time rerigging than fishing due to getting hung up. I then switched to 8# test and 1/2oz weight and it was on. Now when I got hung up the hook would pull looose and not break my line. The extra weight also kept the shiner in the strike zone. Had my limit by 11am and the boat on the trailer by noon. Most people I talked to had not gotten their limits and said you should of been here last week. I did learn from this trip to bring an extra anchor and a marker buoy to help stay on the fish.
