He could have had it inspected by a professional, a boat surveyor, but he probably didn't because the that would have cost a couple of hundred or so. He also could have taken the boat to a fiberglass shop to have it looked at; I assume he didn't do that either. Unless you knew of the damage prior to the sale and failed to disclose it to him when he asked about the condition, I don't see any liablity on your part. When you buy a boat that is fifteen years old you are taking a chance.
