Don't know about the ones in ground but the ones eating thru the wood making a perfect 3/8 hole are carpenter bees and DemonWP from Chastants will do the trick. Spray the wood real good and try to shoot some in the holes and them put liquid nail in the holes and the ones in it will die. Spray about twice a year. First time spraying should be when you first see them coming out in late April or early May and then about now for the second spraying. After you fill in the holes and spray they will probably go and visit your neighbor.
