Jeff, talked to my wife about that situation, she said you would have to get the IRS to issue half in your name and another check in your wife's name. Her half would have to be placed in the succession. If the IRS is not returning your calls I think I've heard her mention over the years there is a public complaint line and that usually gets there attention.

Pox, about 30 years ago, first time in business for my self. same thing happened to me. Went along all year running my business and making money.
didn't know anything about taxes i.e. selfemployement, quarterly estimated payments, etc. Well long story short April 14th the accountant informed me we owed $30K the next day (that is a lot of money now much less 30 years ago) had to go to the bank and borrow it. Didn't get a new boat that year either if my memory serves me right.
