Big Lake flounder 4-10-10

Hit the lake today with scatv. We manged 19 flounder (not as big as last trip); 4 specks; 6 reds; and 1 croaker (14 inches). All fish were caught on Gulp pearl swimming mullet or Gulp new penny shrimp. Gulp is deadly on the flaties. We left the lake at 12:30. We fished an outgoing tide.

The flounder are moving back into the lake. Fishing was slow with the crappy wind but we did grind it out. All in all a nice mess of fish. Gonna fry some fresh flats tomorrow.

Brownies, I was on them last year with a gulp glow swimming minnow, my sister was fishing beside me with a yellow gulp swimming minnow and could not catch one. I made her use one of my glow ones and she started catching them. They are interesting fish, I love the way they bite - thump. Have you ever read Chester Moore's "Flounder Fundamentals"? You could probably write your own book, but Chester has a few good points.

Moore's book...

Acutually, before I got serious into flounder fishing... I did read Flounder Fundamentals and watched the film Flounder Tactics... Chester Moore was in both. I gained alot of knowledge from these. I would recommend reading that book and watching the film. Before gulp came along, I used a white/glow 4 inch curly tail tipped with shrimp... now I just use the Gulp white/glow swimming mullet. No more mess with the shrimp!

I also researched and read every article I could find on Paralichthys lethostigma (scientific name for Southern flounder).

Sounds like you know them well, what is the secret to catching flounder when they are jumping out of the water and turning flips? I haven't seen them doing that recently but they can be hard to catch in that situation. Will gulp still get em? I have seen them when they are after those tiny pogies and they are really focused on them. I still occasionally like to use live cocahoes but I agree gulp is hard to beat.

When flounder are really going nuts you can catch them on topwater,or gulp mullets about 8" under a cork.

trophytroutman 04-11-2010 11:08 AM

nice catch.

scatv 04-11-2010 03:19 PM

Maybe if we have a flounder division next year for the sc tourney me and nasty might have a chance.
