Ipilot dual mount

I've got a brand new ulterra self deploy 60 inch shaft TM bow mounted on an old 22' Boston whaler. I'm interested in doing some more offshore fishing with it and I'm NOT interested in the prop chopping the water when there's a swell. I'd like to be able to switch the unit from bow to stern on demand by disconnecting, walking it to the stern and connecting it.

So, I'd like to also install a mount to the stern and run wires to the batteries under the console.

Anything anybody can think of that would make this a bad idea? I think I've got room to do it.

Have you have a run Your ipilot offshore on a platform?

I have not. I'm mainly interested in keeping up with open water tarpon schools or sneaking up on tripletail in less than ideal sea conditions

I can't imagine it working well on the stern.

How come?

Lots of guys run stern drive trolling motors on bay boats in texas. It would take some getting used to on your part.

No doubt it would take some time to get in tune with functionality. I've seen plenty Texas boats with bow mounted trolling motors, but not an ipilot and certainly never a self deploy. There'd be less pounding under way with big motor - though they Say that shouldn't be an issue -but there'd also be possibility of more saltwater infrequently dunking it.

I have. If you get to close to the rig when you try to use the anchor feature you can end up in the rig.

you can put 2 quick release brackets to make the swap easy, as well as 2 power connectors and you are done.

This was my thought. Thanks.

To be clear, I'm not trying any fancy maneuvers with the remote. I have the trolling motor. I simply want it to operate it in its very basic function - forward, speed control and turn - with the remote and have it operate from the stern.

I know full well it will take some getting used to and will not perform as well as it does from the bow.

Just remember the direction will be opposite when it's stern mounted.

I can't imagine this working too good with an ipilot in heavy seas, not from the stern. I wouldn't want my stern to be facing into the seas at least. Btw we have a 60" shaft on our 22' boat and it rarely comes out the water. The only time it will is when the seas are so bad that its uncomfortable to stand up anywhere in front of the console.
